From the recording The Spirit Runs Through It
A powerful Rock ’n’ Soul / Blues track with a soulful, driving groove and a classic hard-rock edge. Set at a moderate tempo, the song blends gritty blues guitar, expressive vocals, muscular bass, and dynamic drums with touches of vintage and dramatic rock textures. It carries the spirit of classic late 60s early 70s rock while maintaining a warm, soulful character—building steadily from a bluesy foundation into an energetic, emotionally charged performance. The overall feel is earthy, and uplifting, with a subtle nod to the heavy guitar driven sound and intensity of classic Deep Purple.
Lyrics
I was given a gift, I will use it
A mighty fine gift, as I play it
Within the beat of my heart, I can feel it
The Spirit of God, movin’ through it
Recording some tracks and rockin’ to it
the sound is so good, I can groove it
Drummer Benny’s shoulders, risin’ to it,
sets the next beat and I can move it!
Put the chart in front so I can read it
They’re rollin’ the tape, I can nail it
No playin’ Tambourine, I once said it
But it called out to me and now I play it
The song hits the charts, the radio airs it
I know who put me here, Jesus did it
Sound, music and praise, I can hear it
It’s more than a gift, I jump into it
Two four, four four count it as I hit it
Just groovin’ to music and record it
Six eight, twelve eight count it, nothin’ to it
The Spirit runs through it, I can hear it
Single time, double time, any time will do it
When given’ the job, I will take it
Triple time, quadruple time, all the time, I drive it
No matter how late, I can work it
The Spirit runs through it, Runnin’ through it
The Spirit runs through it, I can hear it
As the Spirit runs through it, Yeah I feel it.
When the spirit runs through it, I can play it
Alright, runnin’ through it, yeah
The Spirit of God, runnin’ through it
As the Spirit runs through it, I can feel it
When the Spirit runs through it, I can play it
The Spirit runs through it
The Spirit runs through it
The Spirit runs through it
The Spirit of God, runs through it
